We live in a small town in the centre of the Netherlands, called Ankeveen. Small as in really small – 1500 inhabitants in all.

Note that Ankeveen, like all fen marsh areas, is home to the biting midge (Ceratopogonidae). Not as dense as in Scotland or Northern Scandinavia. but fierce enough that locals will tell you that you cannot sell a house in Ankeveen during the months of May and June – because of the midges. Fortunately, they are sensitive to wind, only appear between 7 and 10 PM, and do not normally go inside houses. Fishing is severely compromised though...
